Block Releases Open Source Tools for Bitcoin Treasury Management
Published on Wednesday, April 9, 2025
Block is releasing a suite of open source tools designed to help companies manage bitcoin treasuries with transparency and accountability.
Why Bitcoin Treasury Management Matters
As more companies add bitcoin to their balance sheets, they face unique challenges in tracking, reporting, and managing these holdings. Unlike traditional assets, bitcoin requires specialized tools and processes for:
- Transparent tracking of holdings across multiple addresses and wallets
- Accurate accounting that complies with financial reporting standards
- Secure custody practices that protect against loss or theft
- Public verification that builds stakeholder confidence

Built from Experience
These tools are based on Block’s own experience managing bitcoin on our balance sheet. We’ve learned what works (and what doesn’t) through practical application, and we’re sharing those lessons with the broader community.
Key insights that shaped these tools:
- Transparency builds trust - Public verification of holdings reduces skepticism and builds confidence
- Automation reduces errors - Manual tracking is error-prone; automated systems ensure accuracy
- Standards matter - Consistent accounting and reporting practices make audits easier
- Security is paramount - Treasury management must never compromise custody security
